Diverse Legacy Newsletter In this issue, Dr. Sanders... Motivate Your Child to Read Make reading a family event by setting aside quiet time to read every evening or night.
Effective Parenting Practice Parents of highly effective children use praise and positive actions to shape the behavior they want their child to demonstrate.
For example, if I want my child to clean up him room. I may give him a high-five and complement them by saying "Good job picking up your toys off the floor, Johnny."
By using praise and positive actions, he is more likely to behave the way I want versus punishing him for not cleaning up his room.
Legacy Tip for Parenting a Teen In today's society, teenagers have it more difficult than when I was a teen back in the 90s or when you were a teens in the 60s, 70s, or 80s. As adults, we do recognize that teenagers find it very difficult to talk with their parents about important things because sometimes "PARENTS JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND".
In order to help your son or daughter survive this crazy time, you may want to connect your child with mentor, older cousin, or family friend that you trust. This person may provide him or her with sound advice or a good ear to listen just hear how tough it is to be a teenager.
